they changed history

about

FORM A RING'S first album, SOUL ON FIRE represents about a year of gigging around Los Angeles and their stint as the house band at the world famous CLUB 88 owned by world famous Wayne Mayotte (deceased).
Club 88 and Mayotte were prominently featured in the cult punk rock classic movie DECLINE OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION directed by Penelope Spheeris. Many of the live club scenes were shot at Club 88 in the late 1970s.

FORM A RING was formed in the early 90s after the infamous MODERN AGE broke up. After the MA break up, Lead Singer T Williams pursued a stage career in Las Vegas for a while and bass player D Beene left LA for his hometown of Tallahassee, Fla. After about a year, MA was reformed as FORM A RING with Mike Harold on bass, Alex McGhee on lead guitar, Paul Shea on drums, T Williams on lead vocals and A Falk on guitar.

After 6 months of practicing and writing songs the band started doing shows and quickly gained a local following. Soon a production company featuring former Poco bass player, Mike O'Reilly signed FORM A RING to a management contract. Not long after investors got on board and the album SOUL ON FIRE was produced and released. While the local rock press hailed the music as "arena worthy" and a "can't miss hard rock sound" the band had difficulty convincing the major labels to sign them. After an ill-fated audition with Sony Entertainment mini-label ZOO RECORDS the band signed with BMG RECORDS for a one year tour of China. The band also did a cameo appearance on the hit TV show KNOT'S LANDING where their song MYSTERY was featured.

Some of the album was recorded at the legendary CORNERSTONE STUDIOS - famous for producing work by U2, Michael Jackson and the Grateful Dead. Other songs were produced at the low budget song factory in the basement at Pepperdine College where guitarist and songwriter, A Falk worked as an adjunct professor. While the quality of the recordings are decidedly uneven, the quality of the songs remains consistent and topical.
